Introduction

This dashboards are recreation of dashboards used in my research project and were created using Tableau software. This research investigates the correlations between Human Development Index (HDI), suicide rates, and homicide rates across diverse countries. Full project paper can be found here.

Note: Project includes only data for 1999 – 2019 range. Original datasets can be found via:

For Suicide data World Health Organisation (WHO) Mortality database was used.

For Human Development Index (HDI) United Nations Development Programme database was used.

For Homicide data United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime database was used.

You can find my original dashboards on GitHub or already deployed here.

Dashboards

This project features 6 different Tableau dashboards. First 3 represnt maps for every parameter: HDI, Suicide and Homicide. Next 3 show more specific data for seleted country.

Note: Sometimes it could take a bit of time to load dashboards depending on the Tableau Public servers as this project is deployed there.

Maps

Note: If the country is not colored it means that the data is misssing.

HDI Map Dashboard

This map shows all available Human Development Index data for chosen year. User can select Year using slider on the bottom left. There is also a color range for HDI values. They can be hidden for better map visibility using cross symbol above them.

User also can use scrollwheel to change the zoom of the map and hover over country to see more detailed data.

Suicide Map Dashboard

Similarly to HDI Map this Dashboard shows Suicide data. User can select Year using slider on the bottom left. However on this map user is also able to select what metric to show. The choice is between ‘Number of Suicides’ and ‘Rate per 100k population’. Colors will automatically update depending on chosen year and metric.

Homicide Map Dashboard

Similarly to Suicide Map this Dashboard shows Homicide data. User can select Year using slider on the bottom left. On this map user also can select what metric to show. The choice is between ‘Number of Homicides’ and ‘Rate per 100k population’. Colors will automatically update depending on chosen year and metric.

Graphs

Country level line charts

First chart dashboard consists of 3 line charts. Representing Suicide, HDI and Homicide data on a country based level. Using ‘Filter’ column user is able to select country, year range for every chart and metric for Suicide and Homicide charts.

Data Distribution by Sex

This dashboards shows 3 bar charts representing distribution of Suicide, HDI and Homicide data by Sex on a country level. Here user is able to select country and only one Year instead of range.

Suicide data distribution by Age and Sex

This dashboard shows stacked bar chart representing Suicicde data distribution by Age and Sex. Here user is also able to country and year.

Conclusion

This dashboards were made just to recreate my original project using different approach. While using Dash framework provides better variability and customizability it is easier and faster to get things done in Tableau.
